The Island of Kirjurinluoto
The small nature park of Kirjurinluoto island, situated in the middle of the river Kokemäenjoki opposite the street Eteläranta, is famous as, among other things, the concert park of the Pori Jazz Festival. The place is a summer oasis, a popular place for relaxation among Pori citizens and tourists alike, enjoyable by children and adults. Kirjurinluoto is only a five-minute walk from the marketplace.
Kirjurinluoto consists of well-cared-for green parkland with flowers, bushes, ornamental plants, and walkways. The total area of the island is approximately 25 hectares. The affiliated Raatimiehenluoto island is home to a miniature golf centre with golf courses both indoors and outdoors, and an international course outdoors. City gardens and the Satakunta Garden Information Centre (Satakunnan Vihertietokeskus) are located on Hanhiluoto island.
The sandy beach is ideal for children, and the water is clean. There is free access to the beach.
Kirjurinluoto also features a summer restaurant, the Concert Park Pori Delta Arena, Pelle Hermanni playground, guided nature paths, and campfire locations.
The playground area attracts a lot of groups from day care centres and schools, as, in addition to the Pelle Hermanni playground, the area features a pirate ship with dock. The Three Bears’ Park (Kolmen karhun puisto) is mainly intended for children between 10 and 12 years of age. Wheelchair access is provided to one of the new climbing frames.
